Wandsworth Cycling Campaign is delighted that it has been awarded £2,650 by the Transport for London Community Cycling Fund to promote cycling in Tooting Town Centre between mid-June and end-September 09. The funding will pay for design and print of a banner, leaflets and posters; for one-to-one cycle training lessons for 30 Tooting residents; and for meetings with the Tooting Town Centre Manager and local retailers, restaurant owners etc. A few bikes for teaching those without their own to use are being donated by the bicycle reconditioning project run by the Wandsworth Young Offenders Team.

We hope you'll join the thousands of people discovering how fantastic cycling is as a way of getting around.

UPDATE - The council has vetoed the funding for cycle training as it believes that it alone should be funded to deliver this and can deliver the training that Ting Ting Tooting planned to offer. Ting Ting Tooting is delighted that Wandsworth Council has sufficient funds and resource not to welcome additional provision and we strongly encourage people to seek 1:1 training from the Council.

UPDATE 09 July 2009
The council have today sent the following email to those who signed up for cycle training (on a council approved form) at events attended by Wandsworth Cycling Campaign's volunteers:

"Subject: Wandsworth Tick Tick Cylce Campaign
Thank you for your recent interest in the Wandsworth Borough Council's 'Tick Tock' Cycle Campaign.

We have received notification of your interest in taking part in the Training Training.  As you are probably aware, there is a waiting list for adults (aged 16 or over).  Sessions take place on Saturdays and application forms can be found on the Wandsworth Council Website.  You will need to fill this application form in and send it back to us, if you are still interested in taking part.

For children aged 9 years and over, the sessions are usually arranged between their Wandsworth Borough School and ourselves.  In order for the child to participate in 'on-road' Cycle Training, they will need to be aged over 10 years and in possession of a roadworthy bicycle.

At present, we have no facilities for children younger than this to take part in Cycle Training.  However, thank you for your interest and we do hope you would still consider taking part in your own time.
